ALARA HAN

ALARA HAN

Alara Han or Alarahan is a historical caravanserai located in Alanya district of Antalya province in Turkey. Alara Han was built between 1231-1232 by order of the Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat I.

Alara Han is an example of the construction of caravanserais in Anatolia, especially during the Seljuk Empire. These caravanserais, located on the Silk Road route, were intended to provide accommodation, rest and safe passage for the caravans engaged in trade.

The architecture of Alara Han reflects the characteristic features of the Seljuk period. The structure consisting of stonework, entrance gate, courtyard layout and two-storey rooms is a good example of caravanserai architecture. There are also walls around Alara Han, which shows that measures were taken for the protection and security of this place.

The rooms inside the caravanserai have a large storage area where merchants can store their belongings. There are also rooms used for accommodation, a masjid, a hammam and other service units.

Alara Han has been subjected to various restoration works over time and today it serves as a historical place open to visitors. Alara Han, one of the historical and cultural riches of Antalya, attracts the attention of tourists and history enthusiasts coming to the region.
